Councilor Darin Nance shared the following on his Social Media page regarding historical tax rate data:

The Texas Comptroller has a great tool for data analysis and viewing historical tax increases. You can find it at https://tinyurl.com/4cmmk8a8. The below chart shows the percent increases by the 3 largest tax entities in Alpine from 2018 through 2022; i.e. the last 5 years. Inflation was listed as 18% according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics from October 2018 to October 2022.

The chart does not take into account the tax rates that will be set for 2023. It represents the tax levy changes from 2018 to 2022 with a few caveats that can be found in the bottom paragraphs at https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/property-tax/rates. The caveats pertain especially to school finance.

The second image shows estimates of the 6 year increase if the City of Alpine approved optional tax rates being discussed at the September 5th council meeting. Anything above the De Minimis rate puts the city at comparable or higher rate increases to the county; as the county recently voted in a rate over the No New Revenue rate.
